Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)  is an advanced orthopedic surgery for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament rupture in the knee joint of dogs. The cranial cruciate ligament is an important structural support in the knee (stifle) joint. Rupture of this ligament is one of the most common causes of rear limb lameness in the dog, causing severe pain and inflammation in the knee joint.

Medial patella luxation (MPL) is a common cause of orthopedic lameness in both small and large breed dogs.  In the simplest terms, this condition is when the patella, or “knee cap”, slips in and out of its natural position.  Normally the patella sits in a groove in the femur and does not move from side to side.  However, sometimes the patella will be pulled out of this groove or luxate. In order to correct this luxation surgery is needed.

MPL

Fracture is the term used to describe a broken bone. There are many different types of fractures, named according to the location of the fracture and how complex the injury is.  If surgery is recommended, the use of various metal surgical implants such as pins, plates, wires, or screws will be used.
