Vaccinations

Vaccinations are the number one way to protect your beloved pet from serious infectious diseases. They prepare your pet for exposure to certain viruses and bacteria so if exposed, the immune system can destroy the invaders before your pet’s body becomes overwhelmed.

During the first few months of life, a series of vaccinations for both puppies and kittens is necessary. Sometime before five months of age, the maternal antibodies disappear and the puppy’s or kitten’s immune system begins functioning on its own. For this reason, early, regularly scheduled vaccinations are considered the safest way to ensure protection for your young pet.

It’s also important to note that even pets who live primarily indoors should be vaccinated, as they can still be exposed to a disease. Your Blue Valley Animal Hospital veterinarian can advise you which vaccinations are required or recommended for your pet based on age, health, and lifestyle.
